Bears
Third graders build with real tools, earn the Whittling Chip and take on more camping.
Boys and girls entering the third grade join the Bear den. The Bear rank is earned by completing seven adventures: the six required adventures below, plus at least one elective adventure of the den's or family's choosing.
Required adventures for the Bears rank

Baloo the Builder — build projects out of wood, use the proper tools safely, and learn how to apply a finish to your project

Bear Claws — learn knife safety, how to use a pocket knife, start a whittling project and earn your Whittling Chip

Bear Necessities — learn how to pick a great tent spot and pitch your tent, plan and pack for a campout

Fellowship and Duty to God — explore what Duty to God means with your den or family and take part in a service activity

Paws for Action — citizenship, flag etiquette and a community service project

Standing Tall — personal fitness, safety and making good choices
